Snake Identification and Snakebite Treatment Course
Our Snake ID & Snakebite Treatment course is registered with the Wits CPD Office and FGASA. On completion you receive your certificate which you forward to Wits to claim your 5 CPD ("Continued Proffesional Development" applicable to medical doctors only) points.

South Africa is the ideal destination for an African herping Safari. It is home to a unique and diverse array of reptiles and amphibians including a variety of snakes, lizards, worm lizards, crocodiles, tortoises & turtles and frogs.

All these tours are photographic only; no reptiles are removed from their natural habitat. Accommodation can vary from luxury game lodge to camping. A really good adventure!

Our Snake handling course is registered FGASA. Learn how to handle snakes correctly and safely and get hands-on experience under Mike’s supervision.

Reptile Removal Services

All reptiles are caught under the permit system that is in place in the Gauteng province of South Africa. The permit allows the capture and removal of reptiles that have made their appearance in domestic gardens or commercial businesses. These reptiles can be kept, made available to other member of herpetological associations or released back into the wild again 20 km away from where it was caught and into the same kind of habitat.

Captive Breeding

Captive bred reptiles are sought after as they don’t have to adjust to captive conditions, feed better and generally thrive in captivity. We have had a number of successes and have recently had our first eastern African Gaboon Viper babies, which were born on 26 February 2003. One of these snakes has an abnormal pattern in the form of a white stripe down the back in stead of the normal white rectangles.

We can also source and supply other African Wildlife and birds for stocking zoos. Please let us know if you have something unusual that you are looking for. We consult in design of cages and fish ponds.

The company African Reptiles and Venom was incorporated in 1999 to supply venom to the South African Vaccine Producers (SAVP) for antivenom production, please note that African Reptiles and Venom can only legally supply the venom, should you require antivenom please contact SAVP directly for antivenom sales.
